Intro to Electrical Technology

Introduction to Electrical Technology will give the student an opportunity to explore the careers and skills for electricians in the construction industry. The class is designed to develop basic knowledge and incorporate hands-on experiences which give the student transferable skills to continue in the electrical program and/or move on to related career pathways. Students learn about construction safety, safe operation of tools, various materials used to install electrical systems and fixtures. Students will learn about career opportunities in the electrical profession. *First priority for openings in this class will be to freshmen, then sophomores followed by juniors, and seniors.

Electrical Technology I

The Electrical Technical program is new to OHTS for the 2024-2025 school year. In the first year of the Electrical program, students learn the skills needed to wire all types of switches, lights and outlets. Students also learn how to set service boxes and breaker panels, bend conduit and install specialized fixtures. A solid foundation of how to work safely and understand the science of electricity is also part of the course. Students will apply their skills in "mock up" walls in our new building and also work in the modular home being built on site. After completing a two-year cycle of the programs, students will have earned 576 hours toward their Journeyman's Electrician license.

Electrical Technology II

Students enrolling in Electrical II will have successfully completed Electrical I. This program is designed to provide the second-year student additional skills in the electrical field in preparation for a Year 3 “Job Placement.” Students will install wiring systems from blueprints and according to the National Electrical Code. Students will install and wire receptacles, switches, light fixtures, low voltage systems, nonmetallic and metallic cables, and conduit systems on projects applying skills to real-world scenarios. They will also learn about business practices in the electrical industry, including ethical considerations. Students completing the second year of the Electrical Technology program will be prepared to attempt for the Journeyman license exam, earn credit for all 576 classroom hours required and 3000 hours of Journeyman in Training experience toward their license.
